Actually, there was a time when all guys, hot or not, at least in my high school, wore white briefs and only white briefs. We wouldn't be caught wearing anything else in the locker room.
I graduated from high school in 1977 and my high school I would say it was 80% briefs to 20% boxers then I went to UCLA and in the dorm it was 90% breves to 10% boxers next year I was in a fraternity and it was probably 95% white briefs and 5% boxers back in my day if you saw a white waistband exposed it could only mean briefs nowadays if you see a white waistband it could be anything it could be briefs it could be boxer briefs it could even be boxers and that sucks
Just remembered a story I thought I'd share. I was in high school not that long ago, I'd say this story took place around 2017 (aka, not a time where white briefs were popular with teenagers). My school's gym teachers were pretty lenient when it came to changing; as long as you were wearing clothes to school that were okay for exercising, they'd let you play without changing into gym clothes. But I'm from somewhere pretty cold, so as it got later in the fall, you couldn't come to school in shorts anymore and would have to start changing for gym.
I was next to this one guy in the locker room who I believe was a grade below me. He was a jock but he wasn't widely popular or anything, he played on the varsity soccer team. Not too popular but not an unknown, somewhere in the middle, and very cute too. I never really paid attention to others in the locker room, but I did notice that most days, even when he wasn't wearing clothes suitable for gym, he'd avoid changing and just lose participation points for that day. Would always say he forgot his shorts or something, I didn't pay much attention to it.
One day when none of his friends were there, I'm getting changed and I notice him getting changed right next to me. He takes off his pants to change into shorts and he was in white briefs. I couldn't believe it. I wore them too but didn't have the balls to wear them on gym days, so I'd typically switch to trunks or boxer-briefs for those days. But here he was, a moderately popular high school boy in the 2010s wearing tighty whities. He got changed quickly and the day went on, but I kept this in mind.
I guess after awhile of losing participation points for not changing almost everyday, he figured it was time to just participate. I'm just minding my own business getting changed when I hear him yell "guys I'm wearing tighty whities haha" as he takes off his pants. His friends all seem to be a bit weirded out, not at his choice in underwear but the fact he announced it to all of them. Everyday from then on before he'd take his pants off he'd announce it and try to make fun of himself, even though no one else really cared. It was kind of sweet to see. He seemed embarrassed that he wore them, so he would make fun of himself before anyone else in the locker room could do it to him. I never talked to the guy but that's how the entire late fall, winter, and early spring seasons went. Once it got warm out again he'd start wearing shorts to school and didn't change anymore. It was nice to see though that his jock friends really didn't care that he wore tighty whities, so it kinda made me realize that whole teasing thing about wearing briefs is just a trope for entertainment that doesn't actually exist in real life. Also nice to see there are some other young guys out there who prefer briefs.
This story is very interesting. How old was this student? Didn't you see him anymore ? It's amazing to think that this young man prefers to lose points rather than take off his pants in front of his own friends. That he is embarrassed to wear these white briefs, but never wears anything else. Who bought his underwear? There are so many other cheap underwear. He could ask his mother to buy him something else. Or he LIKES to wear white briefs and only white briefs, but does not assume that inclination in front of his friends. And it's nice to know his friends didn't care. At the time I was a senior and he was a junior, so I guess he was 16/17. I had seen him around prior to this but I never knew who he was, and once the year ended I graduated and obviously lost touch with everyone from high school who I was never friends with. I wonder a lot of those questions you asked too, perhaps he prefers them for soccer since they're easier to move in? I know most professional soccer players wear them. Anyways, yes, it was an interesting story from high school that I felt people on here would like.
Actually now, that I think of it, I think he did have a conversation with a friend near us about it once. He said that he just liked them more and didn't like boxers. I remember his friend said boxers were the only thing he would ever wear lol.
