David Kross - "The Reader"

Set sometime after World War 2. I know these look like boxer briefs or trunks in some pics BUT, I don't think they had boxer-briefs or trunks during this time period. Which means they are this time periods tighty whities by my logic. Reader suggested.

  1. I'm pretty sure boxers were the norm back in that period. That's why we called boxers grandpa underwear back in the 80's. Interesting that wardrobe, for this film, picked modern day boxer briefs as the underwear rather then just straight boxers.

    1. I just don't believe a "prestige" movie would get that detail wrong. My guess is that is accurate underwear for that period in the movie (in Germany at least)

    2. According to the book, this scene took place after this character had been ill for several months, lost weight etc - so I'd go for tighty-whities?

    5. In the WWII movie "The Guns of Navarone" the Allied soldiers (Gregory Peck, David Niven, Anthony Quinn among others) captured some Nazi soldiers and strip them down to steal their uniforms. One very blonde officer is shown standing in what looks distinctly like what we would call white boxer briefs. I also remember they had these in sears and penney's catalogs in the late 50s (I was there) and they were referred to as "mid-lengths" or something like that.

  2. As for the timing, this segment would have been during WWII...FWIW

    3. and according to internet boxer-briefs not available until around 1990. However, whoever wants to think they are briefs, think they are briefs and whoever wants to think they are something else, think they are something else :-)

  3. I always disliked how movies can never seem to use "accurate" underwear from the time in which they take place.
