New suggestion. I haven't any idea about men's underwears during middle age, but the TV serie The Borgias assumes that they look like white briefs or diapers. You can see it in the season 1 ep3, during a long scene in a public bath. All the men exposed wear the same thing. No one seems embarassed.
I am going on with the serie The Borgias. On season 2 ep 2 there is a short love scene, with a close up on one more of those antics underwear. The guy who wears it is young and really hot. But his character is a poor farmer from middle age, so the underwear seems old and little dirty. No tide in those time ;o)
Shame Jesse didn't follow suit. At least we have Adventureland.
